The Five People You Meet in Heaven

The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Mitch Albom
US$5.48 US$12.64 You save US$7.16- 56% off

THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN is a wonderfully moving fable that addresses the meaning of life, and life after death, in the poignant way that made TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE such an astonishing book. The novel’s protagonist is an elderly amusement park maintenance worker named Eddie who, while operating a ride called the ‘Free Fall’, dies while trying to save a young girl who gets in the way of a falling cart that hurtles to earth. Eddie goes to heaven, where he meets five people who were unexpectedly instrumental in some way in his life. While each guide takes him through heaven, Eddie learns a little bit more about what his time on earth meant, what he was supposed to have learned, and what his true purpose on earth was. Throughout there are dramatic flashbacks where we see scenes from his troubled childhood, his years in the army in the Philippines jungle, and with his first and only love, his wife Marguerite. THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN is the perfect book to follow TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE. Its compellingly affecting themes and lyrical writing will fascinate Mitch Albom’s huge readership.

All About Reading

Maximum Achievement By Brian Tracy

Benefits of reading a book

When Warren Buffett was once asked about the key to success, he pointed to a stack of nearby books and said, “Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.” Buffett takes this habit to the extreme  —  he read between 600 and 1000 pages per day when he was beginning his investing career, and still devotes about 80 percent of each day to reading.

Other than building up knowledge, reading indeed has many other benefits.
– Reading boosts brain power. Reading regularly improves memory function by giving your brain a complete work out and can protect your brain from Alzheimer’s disease.
– Research suggests that reading can work as a serious stress-buster.
– A book can be a good companion when you are alone and helps to kill boredom.

Where to buy books online?

Bookdepository is a UK based online bookstore that provides free worldwide shipping. It was acquired by Amazon in Year 2011. I have personally bought several books from them. Amazon also has millions of titles of books for you to choose from. You can check out the Bestsellers list on Amazon and choose books with many five stars reviews. You cannot go wrong with these books since many other people are buying them to read.

If you are not keen in book collection, you can consider selling your old books to Amazon for a few bucks. It is a great thing to do since you can free up space for your new books and allowing others to buy your pre-loved books at a low price.

How to read a book?

I would suggest that you choose what you read by assessing the kind of skills you are lacking of. As I need to improve my productivity, communication and writing skills, I will read books like Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, How to Win Friends & Influence People and The Elements of Style. This helps to fill your skill gaps.

As I read a book, I will write page numbers of the book that contain what I think are the nuggets of wisdom of the book. I will paste a post- it note on the book and write the page numbers on it. You can also write down key points on a notebook as you read a book. It is good to enjoy the process of reading a book but what is even more important are what you can gain from the books in the end. There will hardly be a time when we are able to finish reading a book at one go. A bookmark comes handy in reminding us we are on which page of the book.

Speed reading can increase your ability to read quickly and efficiently. Great techniques that you can use when practicing speed reading, include reading blocks of words, and breaking the habit of sub-vocalization. Sub-vocalization is the habit of pronouncing each word in your head as you read it. By practicing speed reading, you can read more in the same space of time.

Although a lot of people still prefer to read hard copies of books, e- books are getting popular since they can be stored digitally and are available for download immediately upon buying them online. Kindle books are usually cheaper than hard copies of books. With e- books, you do not have to carry bulky books around if you travel a lot. If you would like to invest in an E- Reader, I would highly recommend Kindle Paperwhite E- reader from Amazon as it is affordable at the price of $119.99 and comes with great functions.

Some of the functions of Kindle Paperwhite E- reader are:
– 6″ High-Resolution Display (300 ppi) with Built-in Light, Wi-Fi
– 4GB on device storage to hold thousands of books.
– No glare in bright sunlight
– Build your vocabulary. Words looked up in the dictionary are automatically added to Vocabulary Builder to expand your knowledge and reinforce retention.
– A single battery charge lasts weeks, not hours

Audiobooks are another great option for accumulating knowledge from books. By listening to books, you can improve your pronunciation and listening skills. Take notes while listening to audio books are useful in writing a summary of the book. You can listen to a book while you commute or are driving a car. An abridged audiobook is a shortened version of the audiobook. It is condensed by using fewer words, but retains a sense of the book. An unabridged audiobook contains the original content. It is not condensed or shortened in any way.

If you are an avid reader, you should try out this Amazon Kindle Unlimited 30- Day Free Trial.
This membership program offers special benefits for just $9.99 per month:
– Unlimited reading from over 1 million ebooks
– Unlimited listening to thousands of audiobooks
– Read on any device

Eleanor Roosevelt- Her Quotes And Books

These are my favorite quotes from Eleanor Roosevelt.
– “You must do the things you think you cannot do.”
– “No one can make you inferior without your consent.”
– “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. – You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.”
– “You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.”
– “To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.”
– “Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.”

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, October 11, 1884 – November 7, 1962, was an American politician, diplomat, and activist. She was the longest-serving First Lady of the United States, having held the post from March 1933 to April 1945 during her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office, and served as United States Delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1945 to 1952. President Harry S. Truman later called her the “First Lady of the World” in tribute to her human rights achievements.

I found a few great books from Eleanor Roosevelt on Amazon.

Informed by her personal experiences as a daughter, wife, parent, and diplomat, this book is a window into Eleanor Roosevelt herself and a trove of timeless wisdom that resonates in any era.

The Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt

280 pages

A candid and insightful look at an era and a life through the eyes of one of the most remarkable Americans of the twentieth century, First Lady and humanitarian Eleanor Roosevelt.

The daughter of one of New York’s most influential families, niece of Theodore Roosevelt, and wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt witnessed some of the most remarkable decades in modern history, as America transitioned from the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era, and the Depression to World War II and the Cold War.

A champion of the downtrodden, Eleanor drew on her experience and used her role as First Lady to help those in need. Intimately involved in her husband’s political life, from the governorship of New York to the White House, Eleanor would eventually become a powerful force of her own, heading women’s organizations and youth movements, and battling for consumer rights, civil rights, and improved housing. In the years after FDR’s death, this inspiring, controversial, and outspoken leader would become a U.N. Delegate, chairman of the Commission on Human Rights, a newspaper columnist, Democratic party activist, world-traveler, and diplomat devoted to the ideas of liberty and human rights.

This single volume biography brings her into focus through her own words, illuminating the vanished world she grew up, her life with her political husband, and the post-war years when she worked to broaden cooperation and understanding at home and abroad.

The Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt includes 16 pages of black-and-white photos and an afterword by Eleanor Roosevelt’s granddaughter

Tomorrow Is Now: It Is Today That We Must Create the World of the Future

176 pages

As relevant and influential now as it was when first published in 1963, Tomorrow Is Now is Eleanor Roosevelt’s manifesto and her final effort to move America toward the community she hoped it would become. In bold, blunt prose, one of the greatest First Ladies of American history traces her country’s struggle to embrace democracy and presents her declaration against fear, timidity, complacency, and national arrogance. An open, unrestrained look into her mind and heart as well as a clarion call to action, Tomorrow Is Now is the work Eleanor Roosevelt willed herself to stay alive to finish writing. For this edition, former U.S. President Bill Clinton contributes a new foreword and Roosevelt historian Allida Black provides an authoritative introduction focusing on Eleanor Roosevelt’s diplomatic career.

Inspirational Quote Of The Day 25/12/2015

You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, non- apologetically, to say “no” to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger “yes” burning inside. The enemy of the “best” is often the “good.”
Stephen Covey
